Performance
The base drivetrain on the Jeep Cherokee combines a 180-horsepower 2.4-Liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine and 9-speed manual transmission front-wheel drive as the drivetrain. However, you can go with the Upland or higher to upgrade to a 271-horsepower 3.2-Liter V6. An all-wheel drivetrain for better traction performance complete with a Selec-Terrain management system to adjust to any type of driving surfaces optional. (It is standard on the Upland and off-road-optimized Trailhawk.) You can configure the Cherokee to produce up to 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The Jeep Cherokee seats up to five people with its pair of cloth-trimmed rows. At the Latitude Plus trim level, replacing the cloth trim with a cloth-and-vinyl blend and the addition of driver-side 8-way power adjustability with 4-way power lumbar support increases comfortability. (Bear in mind, though, that Upland loses driver-side power adjustability.) A leather-wrapped steering wheel appears on the Altitude. The Limited receives front-seat and steering-wheel heating and power adjustability extended to the front passenger seat. Only the Overland gets front-seat cooling.
Comfort and Convenience
Infotainment on the Jeep Cherokee is provided by the user-friendly Uconnect system, anchored by a 7-inch touchscreen. Accompanying Uconnect are features such as a six-speaker stereo system, an AM/FM radio tuner, a USB port for playing media from a mobile device, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Upgrading in trim, except to the Upland, introduces a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio. Go for the Overland, though, if you want a navigation system and a nine-speaker Alpine premium stereo system.
Safety
For restraint and cushioning in the event of a crash, the Jeep Cherokee has dual front impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual side curtain airbags. If there is a collision, you can request assistance with the built-in accident response system. There's a rearview camera to produce a video image when you shift to reverse to view what's behind you on your touchscreen. Other standard safety features include electronic stability and traction control systems to keep your tires planted. This system will help you to stay in your lane of travel and keep control of your distance from the vehicle in front of you. Hill-start ensures a safe drive up an incline when shifting from park to drive. A pair of LED daytime running lights to make you more visible to pedestrians and other motorists. Theft deterrence is made possible by combining remote keyless entry, engine immobilization, and a panic alarm.
On any trim above the base-level Latitude, the rearview camera gains rear sensors to alert you when you get closer to hitting something behind you. Also introduced are blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which combines to help you avoid side- and cross-path clashes.
